OUR AFFILIATE SERVICES
Infectious Disease Prevention and Control - Children with cancer are vulnerable to infections due to their underlying disease and chemotherapy. We have invested manpower and resources to prevent infections because these are preventable and more cost effective to control than to treat. Our ID Team is composed of Dr Delta Aguilar, Infectious Disease consultant and Czamae Deluao, Infection Prevention Nurse.
Palliative Care - More than 70% of patients who come to CCBDU are in late stages of disease. Although these patients are more difficult to treat and chances of cure are smaller compared to early staged cancers, illness trajectory may be uneven and there is a need to care for these children holistically. Palliative Care is a scientific discipline that aims to reduce and prevent suffering and improve quality of life for persons afflicted with serious and potentially life-limiting illnesses. SPMC has a Pediatric Palliative Care Unit managed by our Palliative Care Consultant Rojim Sorrosa. Dr Sorrosa’s team includes Dr Aurea Lanaban (Palliative Care Fellow in Training) and Michael Domingo, palliative care nurse.
Child Life Program - The Kythe Child Life Program provides psycho-social support to alleviate the anxiety of pediatric patients who suffer from illness such as cancer, heart condition, kidney disease, and blood disorders. It specializes in promoting optimum growth; fostering development and helping the children cope with the challenge of hospitalization. The Child Life Program has been our partner since 2004 and through the years it has balanced our science with art and contributed to the holistic care of our children. Shiena Payno Procullos runs our Pag Asa Activity area and organizes Celebrate Life activities for our patients.
OUR CONTINUING EDUCATION As a St Jude Partner Site, the CCBDU Multidisciplinary team conducts regular teleconference meetings on cure4kids with child cancer experts from St Jude, Singapore and around the world. This allows maximal professional input on clinical cases; facilitates knowledge and technology transfer as well as multidisciplinary consults.
St Jude stands in the forefront of global oncology. Its specialists and mentors have years of experience in working with countries of limited resources. Our patients benefit from the wealth of their experience and inputs are sound, practical and applicable to our setting.
