"No child should die in the dawn of life". - Danny Thomas
What we do . . .
Child Cancer Awareness and Early Detection Campaign More than 70% of children diagnosed with cancer at SPMC-CCBDU are in late stages of disease. This is one of the primary challenges of the healthcare team at our Unit since these patients have many complications on admission. They are harder to treat, the chances of survival are poorer and more resources are needed for their care.
We conduct lectures and symposia on the Early Signs of Childhood Cancer in several venues all over Mindanao. We also provide information on how to refer patients and access care for children diagnosed with cancer.
Child Cancer Facility and Satellite Capacity Development Since 2004, we have facilitated the provision of a dedicated space for children with cancer in Mindanao.

Patient Assistance We have improved access to resources for indigent patients through advocacy, networks and strong public awareness campaigns. We have participated in drafting frameworks for the Department of Health Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Medical Access Program and the PhilHealth Z Package for ALL.
DCCFI steps in whatever gap arises in public health service and together with its nongovernmental partners and the community actively responds to the multifaceted needs of patients and families. These include: laboratory work-ups, diagnostic imaging, chemotherapy, supportive care needs like blood products, antibiotics, antiemetics etc; as well as other treatment modalities like radiotherapy. We also provide ambulance and transport services through our partnership with Dr Gerry Cunanan Heart Foundation and World Child Cancer.
TGIF @ Hope (Thank God It’s Friday at Hope) This is a weekly feeding program at House of Hope where we provide free dinners for patients and their families at House of Hope with the help of sponsors and the Ambassadors of Hope for Children with Cancer.
Survivors’ Day Every year, survivors of child cancer come from all over Mindanao on December 8 to celebrate life and provide inspiration for patients who are undergoing treatment. It is also a time for advocates and benefactors alike to witness the growing number of patients who have survived cancer through their help.
White Rose Day White Rose Day is a time to remember those who fought and lost the battle for cancer. We bring together families and caregivers to remember those whom we have lost and to thank them for sharing their journey with us. This celebration is usually held on October 30.
Celebrate Life Activities Life is short. Child cancer gives us every reason to celebrate and live life to the fullest. These are activities sponsored families, communities and organizations particularly Kythe, Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and friends.
